Its true I was around then and in the org, I was a teenager and scared stiff of the riders on the horses and all that it meant. I just replied to my friend that food shortages have always been a problem for those without food....its just now affecting those who always have had an abundance of cheap food. World War II was followed by shortages much worse that today...she agreed, but felt our time now was fulfillment of revelation

by chicken little inany of you been told by the jws that the current food crisis is fulfillment of the revelation prophecy of the horsemen?
they are really talking about it now and how a days wage is worth nothing.

How do we know that humans have been around for more than 6000 years?
by inkling inafter a conversation with my dad last night, i realized that it is fairly.
easy for jws to weasel out of issues involving the fossil record because.
a) the wt has very little to say on the subject and b) witnesses are.

I recently read the book mentioned by sir82 it was Guns germs and steel and was by Jared Diamond and it was an eyeopener. I often wondered about the hunter gatherer lifestyle of the aborigines in Australia....other areas had developed far more complicated farming technics, yet the aborigines continued with the same lifestyle until the continent was "discovered by europeans". They appear to have lived in isolation for 40,000 years.
The flood account puts mankind and its record of activity to about 4,000 years....so how did they get to Australia? They did not use boats....if they did they forgot how to build them again...odd. The story of the tower of babel is told to explain the language spread and movement of mankind...again they were building a tower! What happened when they moved away...they forgot everything they had learned and went back to gathering herbs and hunting? Odd.
The book offers a very good explaination for why some peoples flourished and became technical and others made do with what they had at hand as they had no other choices. It was not a matter of intelligence as some try to bring into the discussion...read the book.

hi newbie to this great place
by freespirit67 insorry this has turned out longer than i thought.anyway i lived the life of a single mother fell away from the organisation, and eventually met a (worldly) guy who is the most loving guy i have ever met,my best friend, lover and soulmate.i was disfellowshipped 4 months ago because we live with each other and plan to get married in september, unacceptable to the society hence my disfellowshipping.it has broke my mum and dads heart and im so so sorry for this,i love them so much, but no longer want or believe in the jw beliefs.
i still believe in god but dont know where im bound as regards my faith,i really do want to have something.
apart from my mum and dad and the shunning arrangement im so happy, the happiest i have ever been in years, and my 2 youngest ones are happy as well..my eldest daughter is 16 and planning on getting baptised in july which is tearing me apart, she is so like me,but is being brainwashed by a certain crowd of witnesses, need i say anymore...my eldest son who is 18 isnt in the truth and feels the same way i do... anyway thanks for this forum and hope to hear from likeminded friends soon.

Hello to you ,
I left the wt org after 45 years in (from age 3). I too am happier than ever in my whole life...so I wish you continued happiness and love in your life.
The witness stuff takes time to esponge.....wash it away gently, bit by bit. Your being happy is the only way to make an impact on your family...they are so deeply in that nothing you say will have any effect..but living your life and being happy does seep into their subconscience..I know from experience.
Love and hugs

I have posted before and mentioned the impact of the movie over her in scandanavia, it might be of interest to you guys to think about presenting the movie in a positive light to any who you know who are still in. Explain that the movie is very true to the way witnesses live and is not condemning. It may just be what will get many young ones to go and see it.

Gas my A$$
by writerpen inthey only reason they have put this big change on the cost of fuel is so that they can easily come back in a year or two - just when they think this wasn't such a good idea and they're losing even more control - and say that, "well, fuel isn't as expensive now, so let's start meeting again for the book study.

When we lived in Britain we had 2 kids, pioneers, no money. Walking to the meeting was not a choice. There was no other possibility when you have no money. We would walk home in the snow, late with the kids after my hubby had done his stint on the magazine counter...often last to leave. We didnt complain too much after all we read the yearbooks and ours was a piece of cake compared to our brothers in the Amazon or Africa. We must have been mad...I had over 30 in my flat for the bs and always offered tea or coffee and biscuits or cake even though we had little money. Still it was a highlight for some with nothing else to look forward to. We lived in a slum area inner London...so the meetings were everything in some peoples lives.

Film "Worlds Apart," screened in NYC - GO SEE IT
by NYCkid inhello, just want to highly recommend the danish film, "worlds apart" now being screend at the tribeca film festival in new york.
the acting is superb and the filmakers represent the witnesses accurately (to the "t") withoug making them appear fanatic.
after all, these are people sincere in their beliefs no matter how absurd.

Yes not to hijack the thread but beards are allowed in Denmark. Sweden is a little bit more touchy on the subject. Ok in Norway. Still you can give a talk at the local assembly with a beard or goatee but not at the district convention...my hubby had to shave his off! Lip dressage is ok everywhere.
The overseers longish hair is a tad too much in the movie otherwise everything else is just soooo realistic that you feel you are back in....help!
